In the past few years the laws covering street art in Barcelona have become much stricter. A city legendary throughout the world for its vibrant and imaginative street art, the once legally colorful walls have fallen drab.

In fact the last legal wall left to paint in Barcelona recently fell and was painted grey by the government.
In response the artists took a stand by gathering forces to make the wall colorful again and express their displeasure at the restrictive laws.
These laws affect more than just artists armed with spray cans, they affect many aspects of daily life in Barcelona as the Government attempts to control the aesthetics of the city.
In London, graffiti artists are being invited to paint the Tate Modern. So why then is Barcelona, (a city known for its colorful art) forcing even shop and home owners to pay for permits if they want to paint their own buildings and shutters?
This is a travesty, but one that the artists are optimistic about overcoming as they make their voice heard online, enlist the support of the web and reach out to artists around the globe.
To learn more about the laws, the artists and check out some of their street art be sure to visit BCN Style.
